A TCM & Aromatherapy Clinical Intensive
A three-day on-site training camp led by Dr. Yu Yu at Huangshan Huaze Integrated Chinese & Western Medicine Hospital, Anhui Province — teaching 85 aromatherapy practitioners, physicians, and nurses a complete clinical pathway for whole-body pain, from assessment to treatment.
The camp banner reads 香遇杏林中医芳疗疼痛管理训练营 — "Xiang Yu Xing Lin TCM Aromatherapy Pain Management Training Camp"
The training camp is delivered through Xiang Yu Xing Lin (香遇杏林), a TCM aromatherapy education organization founded by Dr. Yu's mother.
The most valuable clinical techniques are the ones that translate cleanly from the classroom to the treatment room — usable, reproducible, and grounded in classical Chinese medicine.
Dr. Cheng Zhiqing (程志清) · National Renowned Veteran TCM Physician (国家级名老中医) · Founder, Xiang Yu Xing LinThe title 国家级名老中医 (National Renowned Veteran TCM Physician) is a state designation awarded to approximately 375 senior physicians nationwide through China's National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine — recognizing them as authorities whose clinical experience is formally transmitted to the next generation of TCM practitioners.
The three days were structured as a single, coherent workflow — not a collection of disconnected techniques. Practitioners left with a system they could put to work on Monday.
Reading pain the way a clinician needs to — location, quality, triggers, and the underlying tissue and channel involvement. Establishing a clear picture before choosing any intervention.
Translating the assessment into a TCM pattern — cold or heat, deficiency or excess, blood stasis, channel involvement — so that the treatment matches the person, not just the symptom.
Building a targeted aromatherapy formula from the differentiated pattern. Selection, ratios, and carrier considerations — the same clinical logic used for herbal formulation, applied to oils.
Hands-on application: how to deliver the formulation with the right pressure, direction, and channel work so the oils reach the tissue that needs them and the treatment is repeatable between practitioner and patient.
Practitioners worked through real cases in a supervised setting — the point at which theory becomes skill, and where each attendee left the camp with confidence they could deploy the system in their own clinic the next week.
The primary audience — committed aromatherapy practitioners and enthusiasts learning to integrate TCM pattern differentiation into their existing practice. TCM aromatherapy does not require professional licensure, which is central to Xiang Yu Xing Lin's mission of making these methods accessible.
Attending doctors from the host hospital and visiting TCM physicians joined the camp to expand their own pain-management toolkit.
Hospital nursing staff and allied clinicians working alongside pain-management teams day-to-day.
The camp mixed lecture with supervised practice — every technique demonstrated, then practiced in pairs, then supervised on real cases.

Dr. Yu! For the past few days I've been anxiously observing my legs' pain and how they feel — and my whole family is overjoyed. The pain in both legs has basically disappeared, especially the left leg, which in the past would refuse to lift after even a little walking, like a disabled person. After your treatment there is no pain at all. Truly a pair of magical hands — "illness cured at the touch of a hand" is not an exaggeration here.
My right knee bends and straightens without any problem, the pain is almost gone. Before, even taking off socks and pants was extremely difficult.
Thank you so much Dr. Yu — you have released me from years of pain, released my family from their worry and anxiety. Also thank you very much Professor Cheng for the careful diagnosis and for explaining the use of essential oils. I will put the oils around me to good use. Thank you so much to your whole family for such great love and kindness. Thank you also to your excellent team, and to this group of excellent classmates for their encouragement and friendliness.
I'm getting old and cannot express my best feelings and gratitude. In short — a thousand words, ten thousand words — it's just: thank you so much, so much gratitude 🙏🙏🙏
Today I encountered the Pi needle (铍针) for the first time. My buttock pain of 26 months was finally relieved in Teacher Yu's hands.
After giving birth, on the car ride home from my first postpartum check-up I discovered I couldn't get out of the car — I had to slowly shift my body to get my buttocks off the seat. From that day I was forced onto the postpartum-recovery road. Until yesterday, apart from sitting bolt upright (like a soldier), any other sitting posture would give me tailbone pain within 10 minutes; if I stood up after sitting, my right piriformis area would hurt. So for the past few years I could neither sit nor stand comfortably.
But today, through Dr. Yu's technique, I can now sit for half an hour. My sacrum still seems to have a faint pain, but the right side no longer hurts. At the moment of treatment, the hallux valgus pain in both my feet instantly dispersed. Half an hour later, I noticed the left piriformis feels a little sore, and my whole left leg has a swollen sensation.
My housekeeper (阿姨) has had left shoulder pain for a year. Yesterday I asked her to be my model so I could try out what I learned. First I found the pressure points and did essential-oil massage and Pi needle. Yesterday's focus was the front of the shoulder joint. After I found the trigger points, did essential-oil massage, then applied Pi needle at four sites, she immediately said her stiff neck felt loose. After the four-site "touch technique," she said her left shoulder used to feel like a towel was draped over it every day — now that's finally gone, and she felt much lighter. Feedback continued into the evening — comfortable, no pain.
Today I gave her the same treatment again — essential-oil massage and Pi needle (four sites) at the front of the shoulder. When we finished, she used to be unable to put her left hand behind her back — but she tried on the spot and could reach her lower back. She was so excited she couldn't contain it 😁😁
This effect made me even suspect she was just comforting me — but she kept saying: "really, really, no pain!" Wow! Amazing! 👏👏
Tomorrow I'll observe more — if one more session makes it even better, I now can't wait for tomorrow to come 😁😁
I am so lucky I made the right decision to take this course. And I am so grateful to Professor Cheng and Professor Yu for the patient, meticulous, and grounded teaching 👍👍
Today we have become more loving and more valuable 👍👍🌹🌹🌹
Teacher Yu, over the past two days I've been treating my own left shoulder pain at home. First I found the pressure points at rest and applied the Pi-needle "touch technique." Then, following the method you showed in class for treating hand-behind-back pain, I moved my arm to find more pressure points and needled them. Then I applied the essential-oil formulation you gave, layered as taught. Then I repeated the two steps — finding pressure points and needling — again.
My whole left shoulder and upper arm muscles gradually shifted from the original "unbearable pain" → to "stiff and tense" → to "soft and pain-free." At some pressure points during needling I felt warmth, the surrounding skin gradually turned red, and the warmth even conducted to my fingertips. It felt so good!
I can now smoothly complete the Ba Duan Jin movement "五劳七伤向后瞧" (Look Backwards to Treat the Five Weaknesses and Seven Injuries) — a movement I could not do at all before. There are still a few spots with faint lingering pain, but as a whole person I feel comfortable and wonderful!
Thank you so much for so selflessly passing on the Pi-needle art! I will keep practicing — hoping that while healing myself, I can go on to help family, friends, and more people in the future! Thank you! 🙏🙏
My front-of-thigh (quadriceps) pain has been going on for 2 years. Seeking doctors and medicine got no results. This time I came to attend Professor Yu's pain-management course — not only did I learn a lot of medical knowledge, but Professor Yu also personally treated me multiple times, taught me the techniques, treated my leg — and now my leg is basically well.
Professor Yu's medical skill is truly "妙手回春" (skillful hands bring spring back to the withered). Grateful for Professor Yu's great kindness 🙏🙏🙏
First, thank you so much to Professor Cheng, Professor Yu, and Teacher Yu for your great love, professionalism, and thoughtfulness in kneading these complex knowledge and techniques into something even beginners like us can understand and learn a few moves of. This learning has brought me so many gains!
I especially want to thank Teacher Yu — with what seemed like just a few simple needles, my problem of being unable to open my right thigh outward for two years has been relieved a great deal. I basically feel no pain now. I can't help but marvel at how magical the Pi needle is — and feel grateful to have met a teacher like this!
Especially Teacher Yu — sacrificing his rest time without complaint to help us relieve our pain — his patience and love are truly admirable 🌹🌹🌹
Thank you Professor Cheng for creating this offline learning opportunity for us! Thank you Teacher Yu for dedicating your return-to-China time to teach us! Love you all ❤️❤️❤️
Last night Teacher Yu needled my left knee for me. That knee has had a torn meniscus, synovitis, and effusion for nearly ten years. Whenever I'm careless it will spontaneously develop aseptic inflammation and swell up several times its size, and I can't walk. Normally going down stairs I have to sidestep one step at a time like a robot — very heavy and stuck.
But after last night's needling my knee immediately felt much lighter — I tested going down stairs and it was much smoother. And last night I walked along Liyang Old Street for over an hour without feeling tired or in pain. The difference between the left and right legs is very obvious — the leg that wasn't needled walks like a lid is being pressed down on it, dragging.
Truly amazing needling technique. I've had many types of needling done before and none worked. Grateful, Dr. Yu 🙏🙏🌹🌹
Sub-case 1 — mother's lower back and inner shin: A few days ago I started using essential oils to massage my mother's lower-back pressure points — palpation felt like spinous nerve inflammation. Then I used the Pi-needle "touch technique." She said she felt a "releasing" sensation. I now do this for her once a day. On both sides of her inner tibia, about the lower third near the ankle — roughly 15 cm of clear pressure points — I used essential-oil massage + Pi-needle touch technique + gua sha + moxibustion. Feedback: the pin-prick pain in her little toe is gone.
Sub-case 2 — right knee "electric release": Pressing the outside of his right knee at the "knee eye" spot produced clear pain, and palpation revealed scar tissue. Walking would trigger sudden pain and weakness — he could only walk with a limp. Yesterday I started giving him 5 minutes of essential-oil massage + Pi-needle touch technique. He said it was amazing — like an electric release. Today there was no pain.
Sub-case 3 — son's classmate's 3-week ankle sprain: Both inner ankles near the arch had pressure points. I did 5 minutes of essential-oil massage — pain clearly lessened — then 5 minutes of Pi-needle touch technique.
Thanks to Professor Cheng and Dr. Yu for a course full of substance, full of energy, and full of love — I've benefited so much, it's hard to put into words.
Let me share: during the course I used the Pi needle to fix two of my own pressure points — on the inside of my leg and the inside of my knee joint. To this day they don't hurt anymore — so amazing! (Normally I didn't feel pain there, but during class I could feel knots — many of them — and pressing hurt.) I love experimenting on myself, and I already plan to continue with Pi-needle work on the inside of my leg and to work on my under-eye bags too.
The method Dr. Yu teaches is simple and very easy to pick up. From now on I'll carry the Pi needle with me, the same way I carry essential oils 😊
Grateful for the great love and dedication of Professor Cheng's whole family — I will definitely practice this seriously. — Wendy
Today I treated one of my clients, an elderly woman in her 80s. She said she had pain around her knees and had difficulty going up and down stairs. When I palpated her I found edema in her lower legs, along with many small nodules. Pressing from the outside of the knee inward gave her a sore, aching pain.
Because time was limited, I first applied essential oils, then massaged by hand. The nodules in her lower leg disappeared; the small nodules and cord-like structures beneath the knee also disappeared. She stood up and said it was indeed much better, and moved her lower leg around a bit.
Truly: learn once and you can do it; apply once and it works 👍
Thank you Dr. Yu — last night and this morning I used the skin needle (皮针) to work on my eye-bag area. So far I feel it's very effective 😁😁😁 @Dr. Yu
@Dr. Yu — Teacher Yu, I really did try it. My mother was amazed and said: "How are you this professional? After you retire you could open a shop!" 😏
You need to know — before I gave her the treatment, she was saying she had dizziness, headache, eye-socket pressure, and strange sweating 😏
The next day she told me she didn't dream that night 😁. She's on medication for anxiety and depression, and even relies on two kinds of sleeping pills to sleep (normally she wakes constantly and has heavy dreams).
Last night when I got home, she came looking for me and asked me to massage her head — that made me feel really accomplished.
Also — under my guidance, my mother now knows how to palpate the hard lumps and nodules on her own legs, and she massages herself with oils regularly.
